According to the federal government’s Large Truck Crash Causation Study (LTCCS), truck driver inattention is a critical reason for a truck wreck in 29% of U.S. truck crashes, and an associated reason for a truck wreck in 20% of U.S. truck crashes. The government has found that distracted or inattentive truck drivers rank highest on the danger index for truck accident causes.

According to the Kentucky Traffic Collision Facts 2010 Report, inattention was a contributing factor in 3,028, or 37%, of 2010 Kentucky truck accidents. Inattention was, by far, the most common contributing factor in 2010 Kentucky truck wrecks. The state also found inattention to be a contributing factor in 29 2010 fatal Kentucky truck accidents, making it the most common contributing factor in fatal truck accidents that year. 2011 Kentucky truck accident statistics have not yet been released.
